Broadcast News Story Structure: Organization

The Print News Story Structure follows the "inverted pyramid" where the most important elements in the story are placed on top and the less important details are placed below.

The Broadcast News Story Structure follows the “upright pyramid” style.

At the peak is the news peg or what is the single most important part of the story.  The remaining four “Ws” and the how to the body to complete the news story.

Another way to explain this is that Broadcast News Stories have to begin at a climax.

One trick that works for most stories is to try to being telling it with the words, "Hey! Guess what!!..."
